Battle of the Books

The 2016 Battle of the Books has begun!  Find dates and information about all the programs and battles here and be sure to check out our 2016 booklist.

NEW IN 2016: DTDL is partnering with Grand Ledge Area District Library to present Battle of the Books this year. Some programs will be held at DTDL, some at GLADL and the Grand Ledge City Hall, and books will be available for checkout at both locations. Two libraries, two communities, one great Battle of the Books program!

Our next Battle program is the second Team Spirit Night, Thursday, February 11 (at Grand Ledge City Hall gym), 6 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.  We’ll have materials on hand to help you build team spirit – make posters, buttons, and more! (Teams who would like to decorate clothing items may bring in their own t-shirts, etc. and we’ll provide fabric paints and markers). We’ll also be giving out battle tips and tricks and chatting about the books.

What is Battle of the Books?
It’s a fun trivia competition that tests your book knowledge. Teams of 4-5 participants read the selected Battle books in January and February. At the beginning of March, teams compete in a series of battles to see which team knows the most about the books.

Who can participate?
Adults, teens, and kids (4th grade and up) are all welcome, and teams can be made up of participants of all ages. A team could be a family of four, grandparents and grandchildren, four teen classmates, five book club friends, or other combinations. The booklist includes books that are appropriate for young readers but will appeal to all ages. Families are encouraged to participate together; even children too young for the competition can be included in the fun by acting as team cheerleaders and reading books on similar topics and themes.
