Battle of the Books

Thank you to everyone that participated in our 2016 Battle of the Books!  This was our biggest year yet as we partnered with the Grand Ledge Area District Library and had 22 teams compete in the battles.

Congratulations to the winning team, Sassenach Jedi, made up of Jen Cronkite, Abby Leinbach, Riley Leinbach, Sydney Leinbach, and Nancy Pike!  Sassenach started strong with a top score in the Preliminary Round and stayed on top of their game through the Finals.

Coming in a tie for second place were The Book Crafters and Team Girl Squid.  After a tie-breaker question, Team Girl Squid took the second place spot.

Rounding out the teams that made it to the Finals were: Infinity, Lord of the Books, and Reading Rebels.  There were less than 10 points separating the teams in the Finals so it was a very close match.

Check out our 2016 Battle of the Books album!

Thanks to the Grand Ledge Area District Library and the Friends of the Delta Township District Library for sponsoring this program!  Check back in December 2016 for information about next year’s Battle of the Books.

What is Battle of the Books?
It’s a fun trivia competition that tests your book knowledge. Teams of 4-5 participants read the selected Battle books in January and February. At the beginning of March, teams compete in a series of battles to see which team knows the most about the books.

Who can participate?
Adults, teens, and kids (4th grade and up) are all welcome, and teams can be made up of participants of all ages. A team could be a family of four, grandparents and grandchildren, four teen classmates, five book club friends, or other combinations. The booklist includes books that are appropriate for young readers but will appeal to all ages. Families are encouraged to participate together; even children too young for the competition can be included in the fun by acting as team cheerleaders and reading books on similar topics and themes.
