Tweens (ages 9-12)

A Universe of Stories

Registration for the Summer Reading Program starts June 8 and continues through July.  Tweens will get a prize just for signing up!  Each tween will get a reading log with a variety of reading challenges.  After finishing each level, bring the log back to the library to receive fun prizes!

Prizes include:
-mini kick balls
-pencils & notepads
-slime
-books
-and more!

In addition, every tween that completes their reading log will be entered into a grand prize drawing of their choice, for a chance to win a $50 gift card to Barnes & Noble, Eastwood Mall, Game Stop, or Meijer, or a book prize pack!  The more tweens read, the more chances they can get in the drawings.

Special programs for all ages begin June 15.  Highlights for tweens, ages 9-12:

Domino Club
Mondays, June 3, July 1, August 5
6 p.m. – 7 p.m.
Ages 8-18.  Whether you are new to dominoes or an expert, join fellow builders to create and play with dominoes.  Parents are encouraged to stay and join in the domino fun.

Google Digital Skills Training: If-Then Adventure Stories
Tuesday, June 18
1 p.m. – 2:30 p.m.
Ages 9-18. Collaborate and create an interactive story using Google Slides. Space is limited; register online or at the Youth Desk (517-321-4014 x3). Please have a Google/Gmail account set up and ready to use. Presented by LCC to help you build your digital skills using Grow with Google tools.

Tween STEAM
Wednesday, June 19
2 p.m. – 3 p.m.
Ages 9-12. Explore the mysteries of space with hands-on projects and experiments. Registration required; sign up online or at the Youth Desk (517-321-4014 x3).

CSI Science 4-H SPIN Club
Tuesdays, July 2 – August 6
1 p.m. – 2:30 p.m.
Ages 8-14. Interested in learning more about crime scene investigation and forensic science? In this program presented by 4-H, experience hands-on CSI science activities, learn about evidence collection, and practice sleuthing skills to solve mysteries, all while learning what it takes to be a crime investigator! Cost to join 4-H is $20 (scholarships are available). Space is limited. Fandom Escape Room (Tween Edition)
Friday, July 12
5:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.
Ages 9-12. You hopped in your Tardis and trekked to a galaxy far, far away, but you got trapped. Race against time and through hyperspace to get back to Earth. Cosplay encouraged! Space is limited; register online or at the Youth Desk (517-321-4014 x3) starting June 8.

I Survived!
Wednesday, July 17
2 p.m. – 3 p.m.
Ages 9-12. Do you love the book series, I Survived? Join us for hands-on stations that connect science activities to historic events, natural disasters, space survival, and more.

Out-of-This-World Art
Wednesday, July 31
2 p.m. – 4 p.m.
Ages 9-18. Learn engaging art techniques and participate in a variety of fun art projects, inspired by the beauty of the cosmos. Space is limited; register online or at the Youth Desk (517-321-4014 x3) starting July 1.
