Delta Township District Library

Explore your world, enrich your life, enjoy your time

Adaptive Technology

Thanks to a generous donation from the Lions Club of Delta Township, the library is able to offer visually impaired patrons the following resources:

  • CCTV – a magnification unit that can help people with low vision read text, be it a book, a phone bill or a handwritten letter.  This can also be useful in studying old documents in order to make out details in photographs or writing on damaged paper.
  • Excalibur – self-contained unit that scans printed text and reads it aloud to the user.   Headphones are available at the Adult Services Desk.
  • JAWS – this screen reader program is loaded onto an Internet-ready computer and helps users to access online resources by reading websites to them.  Headphones are available at the Adult Services Desk.
  • Magic – this screen magnification program allows users to increase the size of what they are seeing on the screen, making computer programs such as the Microsoft Office suite and the Internet available to users with low vision.

For instructions or assistance on using this equipment, please ask at the Adult Services Information Desk.

Our adaptive technology station was generously provided by the Lions Club of Delta Township.
