Summer Reading

Prize Update
You may now get your summer reading prizes at the library via carside pickup!  For your convenience, prize pick-up will be a one-time only thing this summer.  Each participant will receive a prize bag based on their age that has all of their prizes inside for the whole program.  Even if you haven’t completed the program yet, you may still pick up your prizes.

To get your prizes, please request them in advance and give us two business days (Tuesday-Friday) to prepare them.  You may request prizes by filling out this short form or calling the Youth Desk at 517-321-4014 x3 (phone hours are Tue-Fri, 12-6 p.m.) Carside pickup is available Tuesday-Friday, 12-6 p.m.  A library card is only needed if you are also picking up library items on hold.  When you arrive, follow the directions on the signs in the parking lot to text or call staff.  Please pick up your prizes within 10 business days of requesting them.

If you are using the paper family reading log and have finished the log, you can also enter your family members into our prize drawings at the same time as requesting your prizes.  If you are using the Beanstack online program/app, you will automatically be entered in the drawings.

Prize questions? Please contact us by phone (517-321-4014 x3) or online chat during business hours (Tuesday-Friday, 12-6 p.m.) or email

Summer Program
DTDL’s 2020 Summer Program may look a little different than previous years, but we still plan to offer a variety of opportunities for all ages to read, learn, and have fun over the summer months. This year we invite you to use your imagination to tell stories, escape to faraway lands, celebrate heroes, and add a little magic to your life.

Summer Events
DTDL is hosting a variety of virtual summer events that you can participate in online or offline from home. Programs include storytimes, STEAM activities, book clubs, online performances, and more. All events are listed in our online calendar.

Summer Reading Program
DTDL is using an online reading program this summer called Beanstack. All ages can participate, from babies to adults. Earn points by reading, completing activities, and writing reviews. Accumulate points to win prizes and enter drawings! Register your whole family today to get started. Visit the Beanstack website or download the Beanstack Tracker app (available for free in the App Store and Google Play).  Need help getting started with Beanstack? Check out our quick video overview.

DTDL has five age group reading challenges this summer. Each reader can participate in one challenge.
Baby/Toddler: best for ages 0-2, open to ages 0-3
Kid: best for ages 3-8, open to all ages
Tween: best for ages 9-12, open to ages 8-13
Teen: best for ages 13-18, open to ages 12-18
Adult: best for ages 19+, open to ages 18+

If you are unable to use Beanstack, you can still participate in our summer reading program!  Print out our offline, all-ages reading log and use it to track your family’s reading and activities, win prizes, and earn drawing entries.
