Star Sculpture

The star sculpture, which is located in front of the south wing of the library, was installed on November 20, 2010. The sculpture was created by Michigan artist Johnny Blue and was paid for with private funds from various art fundraisers and donations.

The sculpture features three stars shooting up out of the ground. The stars vary in size from 12 feet to 14 feet in length. They are made from stainless steel that was cut, formed and welded together. It was delivered to the library by the artist on a flat bed truck and lifted into place by a crane. Three foot deep holes were dug for the three steel posts. The holes for the posts were filled with dirt and concrete and then the sculpture was bolted into place. The whole installation process took nearly two hours.
