Battle Events
In addition to the competition itself, a variety of fun tie-in programming will be offered throughout the winter. Please note the location of each program. All Battle participants are invited to attend any or all programs.

Battle Kickoff
Wednesday, January 10
6:30 p.m.
Location: Delta Township District Library
Come to learn more about Battle of the Books, including booktalks of this year’s booklist, an overview of the program, and Q & A. Adults, teens, and kids (4th grade and up) are all welcome to participate.

Team Spirit Nights
Wednesday, January 31, 6 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. (DTDL)
Tuesday, February 6, 6 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. (GLADL - registration encouraged at gladl.org)
We’ll have materials on hand to help you build team spirit – make posters, buttons, and more! (Teams who would like to decorate clothing items may bring in their own t-shirts, etc. and we’ll provide fabric paints and markers). Prepare for battle and get a better understanding of the books with book-themed activities, plus battle tips and tricks. Teams are welcome to come to one or both events.

Virtual Author Visit with Karina Yan Glaser
Thursday, February 15
6:30 p.m. 
Location: Virtual/Zoom
Karina Yan Glaser, bestselling author of The Vanderbeekers series and the 2024 Battle of the Books title, A Duet for Home, will be joining us via Zoom for a book chat and Q&A! Hear the story behind the book, learn what it’s like to be an author, and ask questions. Registered Battle participants will be sent the Zoom information to join. Anyone else wanting to attend is welcome and may register here.

Battles

Preliminary Battles 
Thursday, February 22
5:30 p.m. – 8 p.m.
Location: Delta Township District Library 
All teams will compete in these written battles to see who knows the most about the five battle books.  Teams will be assigned a specific battle time between 5:30-8 p.m.

Semifinal Battles
Saturday, March 2
10 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. 
Location: Delta Township District Library

All teams will be assigned a semifinal battle time following the preliminary round. The top teams from the semifinals will earn spots in the final battle.

Final Battle
Saturday, March 2
1:30 p.m.
Location: Delta Township District Library

The top teams will compete, with prizes awarded to the first, second, and third place teams.
