Take-Home Activities

Team registration is required to receive the kits.

Battle of the Books Kickoff Kit
After registering your team, pick up a kickoff kit (one per team) from DTDL (Youth Desk) or GLADL (Circulation Desk). The kit will include copies of the Battle books, discussion guides, and activities to do at home – everything to get your team started! 

Team Spirit Kit
Build your team spirit with a take-home kit (one per team) of projects, including a team poster, flag, and buttons. Kits will be available for pickup at DTDL and GLADL beginning February 7. Need space to meet as a team? Teams can reserve a room for free at DTDL or GLADL to work on team spirit projects, discuss books, and practice for Battle.

Virtual Events
Registered Battle participants will automatically be emailed the Zoom information to join the virtual events.

Author Visit with Sofiya Pasternack
Wednesday, February 9 • 6:30 pm
Sofiya Pasternack, author of Anya and the Dragon, will be joining us via Zoom for a book chat and Q&A! Hear the story behind the book, learn what it’s like to be an author, and ask questions. All are welcome to attend! Non Battle participants may register here

Battle Game Night
Tuesday, February 15 • 6:30–7:30 pm
Prepare for battle with book-themed games! Get a better understanding of the books and pick up possible battle questions. Join us individually or with your team.


Virtual Preliminary Battle
Thursday, February 24 • 6:30–7:30 pm
All teams are invited to compete in this Kahoot battle on Zoom that tests your knowledge of all five Battle books! Participants will need a device to watch on (usually a computer or tablet) and a second device (a phone works great) to play with (or you can use a computer with two windows open). Teams are encouraged to join from one device to play as a team. 
Preliminary Battle Tips & Rules

Final Battle
Saturday, March 5 • 9 am & 11 am
All teams will compete in these in-person, written battles to see who knows the most about the five battle books. Battles will take place at the Waverly High School cafeteria. Teams will compete at EITHER 9 am OR 11 am (one battle). Teams will be assigned a specific battle time AFTER the Virtual Preliminary Battle. These times will be emailed to teams on Friday, February 25 and also posted on the Battle website. All participants will be rewarded and prizes will go to the top teams. (Please note: Battle format, time, and location may be modified due to public health guidelines.)
