Get a Library Card

To apply for a library card:

  1. Fill out an application.  Applications are available at the Circulation Desk during open hours.  You may also download and print an application below.
  2. Bring a valid ID to the Circulation Desk during open hours.  Staff will give you instructions, and you’ll leave with your new library card.

Valid ID: This can include a driver’s license, passport, or military ID.  If your current address is not listed on your ID, you will also need to provide proof of address (bank statement, utility bill, property tax statement, or lease agreement).

Connect Card: Allows patrons under the age of 18 (or over 18, in special circumstances) to check out up to two items at a time, to access filtered internet, and to utilize the library’s digital collections.  It does not allow checkout of rental items, Library of Things, Youth Media, or MeLCat requests.  An application for a Connect Card does not require a parent signature, but children must provide their name and contact information.

Digital-Only Cards

Patrons who do not already have an existing library account and who live in the Greater Lansing area may register for a digital-only library card online. A digital-only card provides instant access to our language learning resources, collection of ebooks, downloadable audiobooks, digital magazines, and streaming TV, movies, and music through the Woodlands Downloadable Library and Hoopla Digital, and more. Visit the Digital Services page for a complete listing of the library’s digital resources.

If you would like to borrow physical library materials, follow the procedures above to upgrade to a full service library card.
